Just be better!
A few years ago, I turned to my older brother during one of our member guest tournaments and said, “I just need you to be better at golf.” We’ve been competitive with each other since I was 11, and he was 17, but let’s be real—I’ve been beating him ever since. Golf is about improving, right? We all want to be better, whether it’s shaving a stroke or mastering a new swing.
I’m sure some of you can relate to that sibling rivalry. The push and pull, the challenges we throw at each other just to see who can do better. I’ll admit, it’s a little more about bragging rights than anything else, but golf’s like that—it’s about pushing yourself, testing your limits, and at times, calling out those around you when they fall short. I’ve been called out plenty of times. The funny thing is, no matter how many times I’ve told him to step it up, or he’s told me the same thing, deep down, I know we both love the game the same way. We want to see each other improve—even if we never admit it.
The thing is, this story doesn’t just relate to me and my brother. It’s the same frustration I feel when I look at golf technology platforms today. "I just need you to be better." I’m looking at the state of golf tech, the same way I looked at my brother that day. For years, we’ve been stuck with outdated systems that have failed to meet the needs of golfers and operators alike. And just like my brother’s inconsistency on the course, golf tech companies have had their own missteps.
Golf courses and golfers have been underserved by legacy operating platforms that continue to operate in silos, focusing on their own interests while ignoring the actual needs of the game. It’s like trying to play with a set of rusted Hogan Apex blades when everyone else is swinging the latest and greatest. The industry’s been stuck in the past while others—companies like Toast and Square —have stepped up to modernize their respective markets, leaving behind the outdated systems that failed to evolve. It’s funny, the same companies that Toast competed against, are the same companies golf courses are stuck using.
So, when I said to my brother, "I just need you to be better," I realized it’s the same thing I’m saying to golf technology companies: Step it up.
We can’t keep settling for systems that barely work, that don’t integrate with one another, and that leave golfers frustrated with clunky user interfaces or outdated booking systems. Golfers and golf operators deserve seamless, intuitive, and modern tech. Just like how I expect my brother to step it up on the course, I expect golf tech to finally get it right.
That’s why I started Clubhaus. It’s my answer to the industry's failure to improve, to innovate, to be better. It’s time for a shift, a true tech revolution in golf. Just like I need my brother to be better, I’m asking legacy and new technology companies, to step up their game and give golfers what they deserve: seamless, integrated, and user-friendly systems.
So, whether you're trying to beat your sibling or just get a leg up on your buddies, change is coming. And this time, it's not just about improving your game—it’s about improving the tech that powers it. I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together!
Let’s do better!!
